Tigger Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 We had the same. the power in our 130, will pull the towing hitch off the caravan if I'm not careful. Just had a towbar fitted Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 The 115 and 130 are virtually equal in their ability to Tow. The difference is marginal... It's torque that pulls vans, not power. Both have the same torque output. Quote
Tigger Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Theres a lot of torque on this board. I have found pulling a caravan is about power and weight ratio I hope I feel a big differance. Not that the Old Galaxy was bad. The cruise control will be nice though! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Mixing puddings. Plenty of resources on what the difference between power and torque is.... Quote
seatkid Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Theres a lot of torque on this board. I have found pulling a caravan is about power and weight ratio SA is right. Its more about maximum torque and the way it's delivered. In this respect, the 115bhp may be better as its delivered in a wider band than the 130bhp. Below 1600-1700 rpm (about 50-55 mph in 6th) the 115 puts out more torque so the 130 won't be as good a plodder. Also others remark the 130 is a lot rougher at the bottom end (because of larger injectors?) Power = torque x (rotational) speed so up to 1600rpm the 115 has more power than the 130 Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 The 130 is rough between 2400 and 2900 rpm, due to poor balancing, and additional injection advance. It tends to manifest itself far more after 10,000 miles (almost exactly). The 150 is even worse. Quote
Tigger Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Still must be better than a 90bhp? Quote
Guest Shazza Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 We pull a 19ft caravan with our Galaxy. We had a lot of trouble getting the tow bar fitted though because we have the rear parking sensors. Two places said it couldn't be done, and the third one who said on the phone that the other two didn't know what they were talking about, turned up and then said he didn't think he could fit it. My Dad told him to go ahead and try, and he did and it was fine. Shazza Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Shazza - parking sensors should be disabled automatically when trailer electrics are connected, and need dealer reprogramming to take account of towbar when not towing. Next topic: Auto transmission is supposed to be better for towing. Smoother gearchanges, no extra load/strain on the manual transmission's clutch if you have auto etc. Discuss....... Quote
Guest Shazza Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Our parking sensors are still working when we're towing. Not too much of a problem, we don't reverse much when the caravan's on the back. Shazza Quote
